Using the person-based approach to implement placebo research into primary care

Using the person-based approach to implement placebo research into primary care
Using the person-based approach to implement placebo research into primary care
Mechanistic studies of placebo effects and clinical trials comparing placebo to no-treatment controls suggest the potential for patient benefit in certain conditions and symptoms. However, translating the findings from placebo studies into clinical practice for patient benefit is not straight forward. In particular, there are contextual differences between research and practice that need to be identified and considered. Systematic and sensitive approaches are therefore needed to develop ways of implementing placebo research into medical practice. This chapter illustrates and reflects on the use of one such approach—the person-based approach—to develop a digital intervention for primary care practitioners based on findings from placebo research.
