Assessment consultancy at UoS: the story so far

Assessment consultancy at UoS: the story so far
Assessment consultancy at UoS: the story so far
Students’ perceptions and expectations of higher education are in a period of transition mirroring the complex socio-economic realities of their worlds (Hughes 2023; Neves et al 2024). Central to this is assessment and feedback, which is often felt to be a 'sticking point' of their university experience. In view of this, it is more important than ever to not only elicit the student voice, but also to work in co-design with students to show how that voice matters (McIntosh & May 2025).

The University of Southampton has responded to this via the Advancing Assessment SMP, one workstream of which relates to the creation and development of an Assessment Consultancy. In this presentation, members of the Assessment Consultancy will present the work to-date (including how co-design is embedded), discuss emerging themes on what most strongly shapes students' assessment and feedback experiences, and reflect on where we can go from here.
