READ ME File for supporting datasets for PhD thesis "West Antarctic ice-rafted debris: sources, signatures, and signals of past ice-sheet dynamics" Dataset DOI: 10.5258/SOTON/D3826 ReadMe Author: Thomas Arney, University of Southampton (ORCiD: 0000-0003-4380-4079) This dataset supports the thesis entitled "West Antarctic ice-rafted debris: sources, signatures, and signals of past ice-sheet dynamics" AWARDED BY: University of Southampton DATE OF AWARD: 2025 Data collection date range: March 2021 to May 2024 Geographic location of data collection: Site PC493: -119.9135, -71.130667 Other sites (bounding box, [min(lon, lat) max(lon, lat)]: [-173.8833, -78.48, -70.5565, -66.64433] See Table A.4 in the thesis for full site information Licence: CC-BY Related projects/Funders: This work was supported by the Natural Environmental Research Council (grant number NE/S007210/1) -------------------- DATA & FILE OVERVIEW -------------------- This dataset contains: Supporting_data.xlsx [Ch2 Tbl S1 - Pb-in-fsp compilat]: Compilation of Pb isotopic composition of feldspars from Antarctica [Ch2 Tbl S2 - Pb isotope results]: Pb isotopic composition of feldspars from surface sediments at the West Antarctic continental shelf sites mentioned in Table A.4 [Ch2 Tbl S3 - Rb-Sr results]: Rb-Sr data and calculated detrital ages of feldspars from surface sediments at the West Antarctic continental shelf sites mentioned in Table A.4 [Ch3 Undatable age model]: Age-depth modelling for core PC493 using MATLAB software 'Undatable'. [Ch3 Ba_Rb XRF]: x-ray fluorescence-derived barium/rubidium ratio for sediments in core PC493. Age is using the age model given in tab [Ch3 Undatable age model] [Ch3 IRD AR]: Ice-rafted debris abundance in core PC493 (characterised by counting clasts over 2mm in every 1 cm of depth) and IRD flux, calculated as described in Section 3.2.6 of the Thesis. [Ch3 CaCO3]: Calcium carbonate abundance in core PC493 (weight percent), derived from coulometry-calibrated raw Ca XRF counts. [Ch3 palaeomagnetics]: Declination, inclination and maximum angular deviation (MAD) results of palaeomagnetic analysis of core PC493, as described in Section 3.2.1 of the Thesis. [Ch4 Pb isotope results]: -------------------------- DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION -------------------------- Spot ID is an internal lab ID for one laser ablation analysis. It is structured as follows: GM_-_#<1|2> XX = grain mount number 5-digit number starting digit: 1=Pb, 2=Rb-Sr Y = replicate (0 = original, 1 = first replicate, etc) ZZZ = grain number (zero-padded) Grain numbers are unique within grain mounts. Grains can be matched between methods (Pb, Rb-Sr) using the key GM_. Depth is given in centimetres below sea floor (cmbsf). It has been corrected from the shipboard depth scale to account for empty voids in the core liner and sediment expansion/shrinkage.
