Reducing universities' carbon emissions from urban business travel

Reducing universities' carbon emissions from urban business travel
Reducing universities' carbon emissions from urban business travel
Many national governments have committed to reach net zero emissions by 2050. To play its part the global higher education (HE) sector urgently needs strategies to decarbonise. A sizeable portion of HE’s emissions arise from urban business travel. Many universities now have sustainability strategies that include a goal to reduce business travel emissions. However, the effectiveness of these strategies is unknown. The aim of this chapter is to outline an evidence- and values-based approach for university urban business travel strategies.

Abstract

Many national governments have committed to reach net zero emissions by 2050. To play its part the global higher education (HE) sector urgently needs strategies to decarbonise. A sizeable portion of HE’s emissions arise from urban business travel. Many universities now have sustainability strategies that include a goal to reduce business travel emissions. However, the effectiveness of these strategies is unknown. The aim of this chapter is to outline an evidence- and values-based approach for university urban business travel strategies.
