AI-enabled laser systems: recent results and applications (invited)
AI-enabled laser systems: recent results and applications (invited)
Artificial intelligence is increasingly central to the next generation of laser systems, enabling enhanced sensing, adaptive control, and performance optimisation. In this talk, Dr Ben Mills will present recent results from his group on AI-enabled laser materials processing, with a particular focus on three areas:
Acoustic sensing combined with AI for laser cleaning, highlighting ongoing collaborative work with Trumpf on real-time monitoring and process optimisation.
Recent advances in coherent beam combination, including the latest experimental results from fibre-laser systems and an overview of a new stud.
Broader developments in AI for laser science, covering machine-learning approaches to modelling, control, and self-optimising laser platforms.
Together, these examples illustrate how data-driven techniques are enabling smarter, more robust, and more scalable laser technologies across research and industrial applications.
