Persons as privileged categories: a rejoinder to Mullen and Copper
Persons as privileged categories: a rejoinder to Mullen and Copper
Responds to B. Mullen and C. Copper's (see record 1990-09668-001) claim that C. Sedikides and T. M. Ostrom (see record 1989-18898-001) underestimated the privileged role of person categories in the cognitive organization of information about unfamiliar persons. Sedikides and Ostrom's application of meta-analytic strategies was justifiable by the existing literature and by their theoretical goals. The implications of Mullen and Copper's results were identical to those of Sedikides and Ostrom with one exception; this exception further downplays the role of person categories as organizers of social information, despite Mullen and Copper's claims.
