One combined Microsoft Word document containing six pseudonymised interview transcripts, with a contents page and researcher-generated experiential statements included as comments.

METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Data collection method:
Six in-person semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted between December 2022 and May 2023. Four interviews were conducted with Teenagers-in-Care and two interviews were conducted with Designated Teachers. Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed.

Processing:
The audio recording of the first interview was transcribed by the researcher. Subsequent transcription was outsourced, following the University of Southampton’s guidance. The researcher then read through each transcript twice while listening to the accompanying audio recording. This supported correction of transcription errors, refamiliarisation with the interview data, and initial exploratory note-taking. All identifying information, including names of people, schools, local authorities, and places, was removed or replaced with pseudonyms. Pseudonyms for the Teenagers-in-Care and Designated Teachers were selected by participants themselves. Audio recordings, completed consent forms, and identifying information were deleted and are not included in this deposited data package. Blank participant information sheets and consent forms are included separately within the deposited package. Recruitment materials are included separately in the thesis appendices.

Quirkos/software note:
Quirkos was used to support the organisation of transcript segments and analytic notes during the IPA analysis. The transcripts include researcher-generated experiential statements as comments within the document. Raw Quirkos software exports are not included in this dataset, as they are not readily interpretable outside the programme. The analytic development from transcript material to experiential statements and themes is documented in the audit trail materials included in the thesis appendices.

Additional related data not included:
Audio recordings, completed consent forms, and identifying information are not included, as these have been deleted. Blank participant information sheets and consent forms are included separately within the deposited package. Raw Quirkos software exports are not included. Recruitment materials and analytic audit trail materials are provided separately within the thesis appendices.
