Is there a relationship between emotional intelligence and creative management?
This research note reports on a follow-up study to that reported by Hender and Higgs (2006). In the earlier study the development and validity of an instrument to assess the to assess the characteristics of a creative manager was presented. Differences between creative managers and creative people were identified. In addition potential linkages to Emotional Intelligence (EI) were highlighted.
This research note reports a study designed to explore the relationship between EI and creative management. The literature underpinning potential linkages between EI and creativity is explored briefly. These relationships are explored using the Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (EIQ), developed by Dulewicz and Higgs (2000) and the creative manager questionnaire (Hender and Higgs, 2006).
A relatively small sample of managers (n=46) was used in the study. Overall analysis of the data provided some support for the EI : Creative Management relationship. The note concludes with a brief discussion of the limitations of the study and potential areas for future research.
