A challenge to landfill modellers: to predict the performance of a laboratory experiment on the biodegradation and settlement of MSW based on starting conditions and operational procedures
This Technical note invites International Research Groups to model and predict the performance of a well constrained laboratory experiment on the settlement and biodegradation of MSW waste. Data on the setup and operational procedures of the tests are provided and modellers are invited to submit their predictions over time for (any or all) of 1) waste settlement, 2) degradation and gas production and 3) evolution of leachate chemistry. Results from the exercise will be collated by an organising committee prior to presentation and discussion at HPM2, an international workshop on the Hydro-physico and mechanical behaviour of landfills to be held in Southampton, UK in April 2007.
