The strengthening of wrought iron using carbon fibre reinforced polymer composites
The paper presents the results of a preliminary investigation into the strengthening of wrought iron structures using carbon fibre reinforced polymer composites (CFRP). It is shown that the production process, in particular the resulting laminar structure, affected the mechanical properties of the wrought iron. This has an influence on the possibility of CFRP strengthening. It is shown that CFRP strengthening is feasible but the possibility of wrought iron delamination in the compression zone needs to be considered.
