Observations of in-shoe plantar pressures in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Observations of in-shoe plantar pressures in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Observations of in-shoe plantar pressures in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Foot pressure measurement has become a common mode of outcome measure in determining the effectiveness of clinical interventions such as foot orthoses and callus debridement for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Peak plantar pressures are the most widely used measurement of choice, yet it has been suggested that the analysis of pressure profiles, force and pressure time curves, centre of force trajectories, and integrals are more relevant in interpreting foot, gait and posture related disorders.

Abstract

Foot pressure measurement has become a common mode of outcome measure in determining the effectiveness of clinical interventions such as foot orthoses and callus debridement for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Peak plantar pressures are the most widely used measurement of choice, yet it has been suggested that the analysis of pressure profiles, force and pressure time curves, centre of force trajectories, and integrals are more relevant in interpreting foot, gait and posture related disorders.
