Many organisations are desperate to find and develop leaders, so it is no surprise that the number of leadership programmes, courses and schemes has grown rapidly in recent years.
For interested employers, there are a range of options, including business schools, external courses, bespoke schemes and in-house training, although experts say the actual delivery is just a small part of the process.
Professor Malcolm Higgs, director of the leadership school at Henley Management College, believes many organisations fail to understand what they want leadership development to achieve.
