The collection includes essays on Benjamin Britten, John Sell Cotman, Janis Joplin, Henri Matisse, Sylvia Plath, P.B. Shelley, Stevie Smith, and William Wordsworth. The book also contains contributions by the novelist Jonathan Coe, the poet and broadcaster Clive James, and the American painter Michael Rodriguez.
