Nanohole array as a lens

Nanohole array as a lens
Nanohole array as a lens
We demonstrate for the first time that an array of nanoholes on a metal screen can perform the following functions of a lens: i) it converts a plane waves into a hot spot at the other side of the array; ii) it converts a point source at some distances from the array into a focal spot at the other side of the array. Within a finite view field, when the point source moves, the hot spot moves accordingly performing a one-to-one imaging function. Imaging properties under both coherent and incoherent illumination are discussed confirming that the array can be used as a lensless imaging device.

Abstract

We demonstrate for the first time that an array of nanoholes on a metal screen can perform the following functions of a lens: i) it converts a plane waves into a hot spot at the other side of the array; ii) it converts a point source at some distances from the array into a focal spot at the other side of the array. Within a finite view field, when the point source moves, the hot spot moves accordingly performing a one-to-one imaging function. Imaging properties under both coherent and incoherent illumination are discussed confirming that the array can be used as a lensless imaging device.
