Top tips for writing a consultation letter
Writing skills are an important part of everyday practice, for all grades of practitioners, if we are able to promote good communications to both patients and colleagues. Patient referral letters and their corresponding replies are an important aspect of daily patient care - frequently drafted and sent, but rarely is much attention paid to the quality or skills required to create them. As a student myself, I can remember the frustration, difficulty and time spent replying to referral letters. Despite the need for clear and effective communication few health care professionals receive any formal training or education in this aspect of patient care. This brief article gives some tips which may help those frequently involved in writing referral or response letters.
