Abstract

The authors present compact Er3+/Yb3+ fibre amplifiers pumped by a 827nm laser diode. With a 48cm long Er/Yb fibre, the amplifier exhibited a small signal gain of 34.9dB, a gain coefficient of 0.77dB/mW, and a noise figure of 4.1dB: demonstrating its potential as a cost effective optical amplifier
