Novel hybrid single frequency semiconductor laser with erbium fibre-based external cavity

A novel erbium fibre external cavity semiconductor laser is demonstrated. Spatial hole burning in the erbium fibre suppresses mode-hopping, ensuring stable single frequency operation. With a 3m long cavity, resolution-limited optical linewidths of a kHz are obtained
