Numerical study of 10cm chirped fibre grating pairs for dispersion compensation at 10 Gbit/s over 600km of non-dispersion shifted fiber
We examine illustrative cases for fiber grating-based dispersion compensation over 600 km of non-dispersion shifted fiber at 10 Gbit/s and show that a pair of 10 cm, 95% reflectivity gratings require apodisation to avoid pattern dependency. Approximately 70% apodisation provides the best balance between restricted bandwidth and inexact dispersion compensation. Greater tolerance to apodisation, bandwidth, and system length is achieved using gratings with ~50% reflectivity. The effects of fiber non-linearity are reduced by locating gratings at 200 and 400 km, this configuration also improves the tolerance to total system length and launched power.
