Optical detection of crystallographic domains in zinc-blende crystals
We introduce an experimental technique which allows the characterization of domains in nonmagnetic cubic crystals of the zinc-blende type. The technique exploits the optical anisotropy of cubic crystals near an excitonic resonance which translates to a dependence of the reflected light polarization on crystal orientation. We demonstrate sub 10 µm domains on the [110] surface of a high quality, homoepitaxially grown ZnSe film.
