Examines International Maritime Organisation (IMO) initiatives on guidelines for masters of vessels in need of refuge and the provision of places of refuge by coastal states. Explores the Comite Maritime International (CMI) work programme on places of refuge. Includes annexes of: (1) the Report on Places of Refuge submitted by the CMI to the IMO Legal Committee; and (2) Guidelines on Places of Refuge for Ships in Need of Assistance.
