Punjabi refugees’ rehabilitation and the Indian State: discourses, denials and dissonances
Punjabi refugees’ rehabilitation and the Indian State: discourses, denials and dissonances
The article explores the dissonances between official accounts of the 1947 partition migrants' rehabilitation and the emerging narratives arising from personal testimonies. It sets out to explore the political and psychological explanations for these variations and also poses the question whether the gap between them would be closed if more first hand accounts were provided by subaltern groups. At present refugee narratives are dominated by members of the upper and middle classes
