Graham Hudson: Forecast
Part of the 'Live Art Performance' series, 'Forecast' responds to the architectural history of Camden Arts Centre. Twenty umbrellas are attached to the building, their location suggested by the overlooked and evolving architectural residue of the building. Empty sign posts, a rusting banner rail, disused overflow pipes and a hole in the wall have umbrellas attached to them, sourced from local charity shops.
As the umbrellas are destroyed by the weather they will be brought into the gallery and displayed in a growing installation, a record of the work will build up over time. Like temporary monuments, another umbrella will be fixed to take the place of the broken one outside. The continual disintegration and renewal of the work reflects the evershifting relationship between the audience and a monument, its context and what it represents.
Timed to occur over three weeks, the daily maintainance of the work is performed by students from Middlesex University in collaboration with the artist, connecting the sculptural qualities of the piece with the performative repetition inherent within it.
