William Cobbing: Gradiva Project
06 December 2007 - 10 February 2008
Two manhole covers with embossed bas-reliefs by William Cobbing are installed on Camden Arts Centre's forecourt. They derive from surrealist images by Andre Masson of Gradiva and Acephale.
Creating an incongruous addition to the manhole covers, they also draw attention to the hidden underworld of drains below ground level.
This is part of Cobbing's solo exhibition 'Gradiva Project' at the nearby Freud Museum, which draws on the story of the Gradiva bas-relief that Freud was so interested in.
Hear Cobbing discuss the 'Gradiva Project' at the launch of a new book on 12 December at 7.00pm - to reserve a free place call 020 7472 5500.
