Implementation and verification of an explicit overset grid method

Implementation and verification of an explicit overset grid method
Implementation and verification of an explicit overset grid method
This paper presents an initial implementation of the overset method in the solver ReFRESCO. The DCI (Domain Connectivity Information) is computed by the external library Suggar++ and the coupling between meshes is done explicitly. Manufactured solutions and analytical solutions are used in order to quantitatively assess the discretisation errors. The grid refinement study performed on two test cases shows that the overset method does not affect the convergence towards the exact analytical solution. However, when solving the continuity equation, pressure fluctuations are observed in the overlapped region and a mass imbalance is introduced.

Abstract

This paper presents an initial implementation of the overset method in the solver ReFRESCO. The DCI (Domain Connectivity Information) is computed by the external library Suggar++ and the coupling between meshes is done explicitly. Manufactured solutions and analytical solutions are used in order to quantitatively assess the discretisation errors. The grid refinement study performed on two test cases shows that the overset method does not affect the convergence towards the exact analytical solution. However, when solving the continuity equation, pressure fluctuations are observed in the overlapped region and a mass imbalance is introduced.
