This paper provides an english translation of a short text by Roland Barthes, in which he reflects on his 'practice' of drawing and painting. The article is part of the Theory, Culture & Society special issue, ‘Neutral Life/Late Barthes’, edited by Sunil Manghani. The text includes a lengthy editorial note by the editor which reflects on the exhibition of Barthes' paintings at the John Hansard Gallery in 2016 - the only time the works have been shown outside of Paris.
