‘An infinite deal of nothing’: critical ruminations on ChatGPT and the politics of language
In this short piece, we examine ChatGPT primarily through the lens of textuality and ponder upon the meaning, politics and construction of generative text. Through this examination, we arrive at three broad ways to understand ChatGPT—information asymmetry, naturalness (or natural Interaction) and personal control. However, before we embark upon the textuality, we provide a short description of what ChatGPT is and how it works, which will hopefully help us better situate the analysis that follows.

Abstract

In this short piece, we examine ChatGPT primarily through the lens of textuality and ponder upon the meaning, politics and construction of generative text. Through this examination, we arrive at three broad ways to understand ChatGPT—information asymmetry, naturalness (or natural Interaction) and personal control. However, before we embark upon the textuality, we provide a short description of what ChatGPT is and how it works, which will hopefully help us better situate the analysis that follows.
